About us

We are a small firm of Chartered Accountants.  The principal, Francis Hughes, supported by a small dedicated team of professionals, has been working for over 19 years to provide clients with a personalised service.  It is the personal nature of the service that differentiates Hughes Collett.

Following his qualification as an auditor with Shipleys in London, Francis took over his late father’s practice in 1992, which had a niche in managing clients with significant share portfolios and complex trust arrangements.

Francis has extensive experience acting as executor.  He has successfully administered many complex estates, realising significant IHT and CGT savings for his clients through careful and timely planning.

Power of Attorney is another role that Francis has extensive experience in providing and is one where the personal nature of the service Francis and his team offer, comes to the fore.  The need for a POA can arise for a variety of reasons, sometimes because the client is widowed or a widower, and sometimes because their children live away or abroad.  In many cases we help to organise and administer caring arrangements and to control and streamline finances, with appropriate input from IFAs and stockbrokers.

Hughes Collett has significant tax planning experience.  Personal recommendation in this area has lead the firm to advise a significant number of senior executives of a major PLC.  We have provided these clients with tax planning services, developed inheritance tax planning strategies and worked with them to implement family trusts. Our advice has brought coherence to the management of their complex affairs. This has included collaboration with IFAs, wealth managers, stockbrokers and solicitors.

Second careers for successful professionals are also supported by Hughes Collett, who will assist in  setting up corporate structures and are then able to provide a bespoke accountancy support which can, depending on the clients needs, include payroll, bookkeeping, invoicing, Corporation Tax, VAT, annual accounts and regulatory compliance.
